1824/2 N-1 R1 Overdate 4 over 2. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. CAC Approved. Lustrous bluish steel and medium chocolate brown with hints of underlying very faded mint color peeking through in a couple of the protected areas. Subtle puffs of darker olive and steel toning are visible on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only marks are a shallow scrape on the eyebrow, a thin diagonal nick or planchet chip on the jaw, and a faint hairline scratch from the second S in STATES to the bottom of the adjacent O in OF. MDS. There are microscopic radial die flowlines on both sides but no trace of crumbling in the dentils at stars 2-5. Our grade is AU58. A beautiful example of this popular overdate variety, and it comes with a very impressive provenance. The Eliasberg provenance is shown on the PCGS label. Estimated Value $25,000-UP. Ex Louis E.
