1845 N-9 R2. PCGS graded MS-64 Red. Bright original mint red just starting to mellow to light steel brown, 90% of the red remaining on the obverse, 80% on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and cartwheel luster covers both sides. The best identifying mark is a tiny, barely visible spot of darker brown toning in the field under the left edge of star 12. MDS, die state b early. Fine die cracks pass along most of the top of the reverse legend, but the die crack at ST in STATES has not formed. Our grade is MS65. A very impressive cent, finest known of the variety. PCGS population 1; the only Red example of the variety graded by PCGS. DWH #2660 (PCGS # 397766) . Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
