1798 NC-1 R7 Style I Hair, Small 8 VG10. A couple points sharper but there is minor roughness under the glossy chocolate brown and steel toning. No verdigris, and the only notable mark is a dull, very old scratch or scrape across the top of CE in CENT. Overall a decent example for the grade, clearly with fewer problems than the ANS and Ronnie Adam examples. In fact this is the only example among the 6 known given a condition assessment better than "Average" by Noyes. "Choice" just doesn't exist. EDS, Breen state I, before the die crack at TY. Called VG10 and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says F12 net VG10 "Average Plus" and tied for CC#2, his photo #21265. The CC#1 coin is net F15 "Scudzy" and the other net VG10 piece is the corroded example impounded in the ANS. A highlight of the exceptional collection of 1798 cents formed by the late Dr. Ralls. Estimated Value $8,000-UP. Ex an Eastern dealer in 1962-Richard Picker-Dr. William H. Sheldon 4/19/1972-R. E. Naftzger, Jr. 2/23/1992 (via Eric Streiner)-Dr. Philip W. Ralls.
