1907,
CHINA. Manchurian Provinces. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 33 (1907). NGC MS-61.

L&M-487; K-255; Y-212; WS-0545. Struck at the Fengtien mint at Mukden. The silver issues of the "Manchurian Provinces" are something of a special matter. At this time, the provinces of Fengtien, Kirin and Heilungkiang were incorporated, hence the "Manchurian Provinces". As a result, the related coinage became somewhat unified for this region. The last silver issues of Kirin were produced in small quantities in 1908 and 1909, at which point production was superseded by the Manchurian Provinces issue. This eliminated much of the inconsistencies and problems associated with issues from the Kirin mint. For obvious reasons, coinage with the Fengtien inscription ceased, as this mint became in charge of striking the current coinage. Coins of Heilungkiang fall into a different set of circumstances. The only known issues for Heilungkiang are patterns in base metal produced in Germany. Most references suggest the minting of these pieces as the late 1800's; however, it is more likely the Heilungkiang patterns were produced in the early 1900's. The project never came to fruition once the mint at Mukden went into full production of "Manchurian Provinces" coinage. A true rarity especially in mint state condition. The dragon's scales are deep and sharply defined. Scattered small contact marks which do not detract from the appeal of the coin especially when matched with the golden orange toning present on nearly all of the surface. With good remaining luster, especially in the more protected peripheral areas. Used as the plate coin in "Top Chinese Coins, Silver Coinage" by Michael Chou, Ron Guth and Bruce Smith. One of only five mint state certified examples. Three of which are finer by one point, and one is finer by two points.
