1 Nickel    (sold for $1850.0)

1918/7-D Buffalo Nickel. NGC graded Fine-12. Evenly toned with a clear overdate. A popular key date. The World War I war boom increased the demand for minor coins. The Engraving Department at the Mint was engaged in the production of both 1917 and 1918-dated nickel dies in the final months of 1917. In order to ship dies to the branch mint at Denver as soon as possible for the facility's 1918 requirements, the Philadelphia Mint (which made the dies) took a 1917-dated obverse die and gave it a second impression from a 1918-dated hub. The Denver Mint used this die to produce an unknown (though believed to be small) number of 1918/7-D overdate Buffalo Nickels. Estimated Value $1,900 - 2,000. Categories:
