Commemorative issue First Spouse series – Martin van Buren’s Liberty Obverse Design from the Liberty Seated Dime minted between 1837 and 1891. Lettering: 8TH PRESIDENCY LIBERTY W 1837-1841 IN GOD WE TRUST-2008 Engraver: Christian Gobrecht Christian Gobrecht was the third Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1840 until his death in 1844. He was responsible for designing the famous “Seated Liberty” designs, which were in turn the direct inspiration for the design of the Trade Dollar.
