1921,
AUSTRALIA. "Kookaburra" 1/2 Penny Pattern, 1921. London Mint. NGC MS-65.
The Finest Certified Pattern Kookaburra
KM-Pn19; M-2; Ren-2; Type-11. EXTREMELY RARE. A highly collectible pattern type with an attractive design by Mr. Charles Richardson. Struck in copper-nickel. In 1919, the Australian government considered replacing the bulky bronze Penny and 1/2 Penny coins with smaller, copper-nickel square coins. The design features a left facing bare head of King George V, surrounded by the legend, ".GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX.", date "1921" below; Reverse: Kookaburra bird perched atop a small branch, "AUSTRALIA" above, "HALFPENNY' below. An elusive and beautiful rarity, with stellar luster and a subdued amber toning. An endearing design rarely seen in auction. This outstanding example will add prestige to any collection. Finest graded by NGC or PCGS.
Pedigree: Ex: John L. Ahbe & Osborne Collections Spink Noble July 1993, lot #416.
