† ISLAMIC COINS. Dulafid. A hmad b. ‘Abd al-‘Aziz (265-280h), Gold Medallion Dinar, Hamadhan 275h, without name of caliph, 2.78g (Bernardi 203 Mu; A 1397P). Crimped, otherwise good very fine, very rare . The legends on this traditional Abbasid style donative dinar are interesting because the name of the caliph is omitted and that of the issuer, Ahmad, is placed in the lower line of both the obverse and reverse fields. This emphasises the personal nature of the donative, presumably given only to members of his own family and high-ranking administrators. £3500-4000
