1851 N-39 R3. NGC graded MS-66 Red & Brown. Highly lustrous bluish steel brown and olive with 10% of the mint red showing on the obverse, 20% on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers the entire surface of this cent, even the highest points of the designs. The only marks, and they are barely visible, are a small spot of slightly darker toning at the bust tip and two tiny planchet flakes on the rim above the D in UNITED. Nicely struck except for some weakness in the dentils on the right side of the obverse. E-MDS, die state a, showing the small bar near the dentils above star 3. A truly beautiful cent that offers exceptional eye appeal. Our grade is MS64+, close to MS65, and CC#1 by a small margin in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Population 1; 1 finer in 67 at NGC. Estimated Value $1,500-UP. Ex Bowers & Merena 8/2010:79-Kenneth Goodman. Categories: Liberty Cents
