1936. PCGS graded Proof 65 CAC Approved. A brilliant creamy white Gem Proof, this being the first year issue and a low mintage one at that. From 1916 to 1936, the Mint officials insisted they were unable to apply the Proofing process to Walking Liberty Half Dollars due to their modern design (compared to the former Barber type of 1892-1915). But science, Minting excellence, and a few jabs in the side by an interested collecting fraternity, finally caused the government to issue these in Proof.
