1886. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. CAC Approved. A scant 72 half eagle proofs were struck in 1886. Of that number, PCGS estimates that today only 25 to 35 individual proofs still exist. Only 11 submission events have been recorded at that service as non-Cameo, Cameo, and Deep/Ultra Cameo combined (12 at NGC, some are likely crossovers). The mirrors are exceptionally deep on each side and noticeably contrast against the modestly frosted devices. Some very light pastel-orange patina is seen on each side. The fields otherwise have traces of "orange-peel" texture so common to proofs of this era, and there are only the faintest hairlines evident with magnification that serve to limit the grade.
