1847 N-8 R3 MS62+. Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown with a third of the mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. A choice cent if not for a few small spots of darker olive brown and steel toning (not carbon) around the earlobe and a couple more hidden in protected areas around the hair bun. Extremely rare M-LDS, die state c, with a small but clearly defined rim cud break over AM. Tied for CC#5 overall for the variety but finest by a small margin among less than a dozen known with the single rim cud. This cent is plated inside the front cover of the second (1987) edition of the Grellman book on late date cents. Estimated Value $750-UP.
