1846 N-10 R4 MS63+. Beautiful slightly faded mint red fading to light steel brown, at least two-thirds of the mint color is remaining. The devices are frosty while the fields are smooth and reflective giving this cent the look of a proof strike (which it may be). The only marks, and they are trivial, are a speck of carbon hidden between two dentils under the right foot of the 1 in the date, a speck of dark toning over the upper left point of star 7, and a shallow planchet flake on the rim off the end of the wreath stem (as struck). VEDS. The finest of only 3 mint state examples known for this variety, and this one is the finest of that elite group. A clear highlight among the late date cents being offered in this sale. Estimated Value $3,000-UP. Ex Heritage 1/2005:7078 (where misattributed as N-8). Categories: Liberty Cents
