1883. PCGS graded Proof 65 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. Lovely shades of red color over the obverse, the reverse is a somewhat deeper shade of red and brown. Proof mintage increased in 1883 with the addition of three major types of nickel five cent coinage spurring collector demand. There were 6,609 pieces minted in Proof, which is still very low by today's standards when millions of proof sets are struck every year. Pop 116; 39 finer, 2 in 65+, 34 in 66, 3 in 67.
