1836 N-7 R4 Gobrecht Head. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. CAC Approved. Choice lustrous steel brown with frosty lighter steel brown toning covering the protected areas on both sides. No spots or stains, only a hint of friction on the highest points and a few trivial contact marks. A tiny planchet flake on the top of the 8, a barely visible diagonal planchet depression right of star 1, and a line of microscopic ticks over EN in CENT are the best identifying marks, and it takes a strong glass to see them. LDS with a clearly defined rim cud break over D-STA. Our grade is AU58+, close to mint state. Clearly superior to the best examples of the variety in the Naftzger and Holmes collections. A single mint state (MS60) example is reported but unverified, so this piece is certainly very high in the condition census. The attribution is shown on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; finest of only 3 graded at PCGS for the variety. Estimated Value $2,000-UP. Ex Doug Durasoff. Categories: Liberty Cents
