1868. PCGS graded AU-58. Nice straw-gold color with some subtle red at certain peripheral areas with indirect lighting. 1868 is considered a rare date with only 10,630 pieces minted. Abundant detail remains despite a short stint in circulation. All of the With Motto eagles from 1866 through 1873 (Closed 3) had low mintages and Condition Census survivors generally are in the choice AU range. The 1868 has the largest mintage of any Philadelphia eagle produced from 1866-1873, but do not be deceived into thinking that this issue is easy to locate in the Choice AU range. In fact, only a single Uncirculated example has been graded by PCGS (MS62) with only 15 AU-58 examples. One thing is for sure, the present 1868 is a high grade example of a very difficult year and time frame. Identified by a scuff in the field near stars 2 and 3, another over the top of Liberty's head, as well as several chatter marks on the reverse. Pop 15; 1 finer in 62. (PCGS # 8653) . Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500. Categories: $10 Liberty/With Motto
