1794 S-38 R5 F12. Sharpness VF20 but there are a dozen small pits on the obverse, none distracting but too many to ignore. The notable ones are in the field off the tip of the nose. No verdigris and the notable contact marks are a fine vertical scratch on the neck, a nick on the top of the I in LIBERTY, and a pinprick on the E in STATES. Glossy light olive brown mixed with reddish chocolate. EDS, Breen state II. The two chips in the field under the cap are strong and the reverse is rotated 10 degrees CCW. The date is clear and the legends are strong. A decent example of this tough die variety, one of the popular "Single Berry Left of Bow" types. Estimated Value $2,500-UP. Categories: Liberty Cap Cents
