1852 N-18 R3. NGC graded MS-65 Brown. CAC Approved. Frosty medium steel brown and light chocolate with traces of faded mint color remaining, mostly on the obverse. No spots or stains and only a few trivial marks. The notable defects are a tiny planchet void (as struck) in the field over the right point of star 2 and nicks on the 185 in the date. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. This is a rare die state for the variety and it clearly shows the fine repunching at the dentils under the 1 and the top of a stray 1 imbedded in the bust over the left side of the 8. Apparently someone at the mint was playing with the 1 punch. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#6 honors in the Grellman census. Estimated Value $500-UP. Categories: Liberty Cents
