1907. Flat Relief, Arabic Numerals. PCGS graded MS-65. Both sides are covered with frosty mint luster and pink highlights at the centers. This is a lovely Gem that also sports sharp striking detail. The 1907 "Arabic Numerals" double eagle represents the Mint's replacement format for the MCMVII High Relief double eagles of the same date. The new, flatter relief allowed bankers to stack the coins easier than those with the High Relief style. The production was stepped up enormously as the new design took much less effort to strike than the MCMVII pieces which often took several blows of the dies to fully bring out Saint-Gaudens' original design. Gems of the Arabic Numerals style are elusive but not rare (PCGS # 9141) . Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,200. Categories: $20 St. Gaudens
