1820 N-13 R1 Large Date AU55. Tapered Planchet Error. Frosty steel brown and light chocolate with lustrous lighter steel brown and tan toning faded down from mint color in protected areas. The only marks are subtle puffs of darker chocolate brown toning on the lower left part of the obverse and a thin diagonal nick on the cheek right of the nostril. LDS. Struck on a defective planchet that is considerably thinner than normal on the left side causing severe weakness at stars 1-4 and on the opposing TED-STAT. This planchet most likely was cut from near the end of a planchet strip. Weight 156.1 grains versus the 168.0-grain standard. A neat mint error. Estimated Value $300-UP.
