1840 N-8 R1 Large Date. NGC graded MS-63 Brown. Lustrous bluish steel and light olive brown with mellowed mint red covering at least 10% of both sides. No spots or stains, only a few tiny contact marks, mostly in the field before the portrait. A tiny linear planchet flake left of the peak of the 1 is the only notable mark. LDS, die state d, with a series of narrow rim cuds on the obverse, the strongest of these cuds right of star 9 and below the date. An attractive cent, and the reverse is choice. Our grade is MS60+, tied for CC#12 in the Grellman census. Estimated Value $750-UP. Ex Heritage Auctions #2158, lot 1169-Doug Durasoff. Categories: Liberty Cents
