1848 N-41 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous bright original mint red fading to steel brown on the highpoints, more than two-thirds of the mint color remaining. The only marks are a tiny spot of dark toning hidden in the dentils at star 1 and traces of an old fingerprint on the lower left part of the reverse. E-MDS, die state b, with minor crumbling in the notch on the left side of the second 8 in the date. An impressive large cent. Our grade is MS64+, CC#1 in the Grellman census. Pop 29; 12 finer at PCGS in RB. Estimated Value $800-UP. Ex Chris McCawley-McCawley & Grellman Auctions 1/7/95:644-Tom Reynolds. Categories:
