Thrace, Cherronesos, c. 400-350 BC. AR Hemidrachm (2.44 g). Forepart of lion right, head reverted. Reverse: Quartered incuse with monogram and pellet in one quarter, barley ear in the other. Cf. BMC 22; cf. Grose 4110. Superb Extremely Fine. A wonderfully struck coin; exceptional. The city of Cherronesos, itself a peninsula, was colonized by the Athenians in the 6th century BC.
