1853 N-23 R4 MS62+. Lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown with 10-15% of the mint red remaining on both sides. This cent offers excellent eye appeal and is very close to choice. The only notable mark is a small spot of shallow carbon on the peak of the 1. LDS, die state b. The fields are covered with strong radial die flowlines that create attractive cartwheel luster. The stray 4 punched into the hair just right of the ear is dull. Much of the neck is covered with a shallow low spot caused by debris stuck on the die (most likely lubricating grease from the press), and this low spot is common on the N-23 variety.
