1848 N-42 R6 AU50. Glossy light steel brown, the reverse with delicate overtones of bluish steel and hints of faded mint red in protected areas. There is a small spot of darker olive toning left of star 1 and a tiny vertical nick on the chin, but overall this cent is very attractive with great eye appeal. EDS, die state a early (there is no state b for this variety). The fields are slightly reflective and show many fine die polishing lines. A choice cent, second finest of this rare die variety. DWH #2114. Estimated Value $1,000-UP. Ex Del Bland prior to 6/89-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:656. Categories: The Dan Holmes Collection of Late Date Large Cents
