1936 Albany Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. "Monster toning" on both sides. The surfaces feature a range of vibrant and distinct hues of green, rose, and violet. Worthy of a record bid. Housed in an Old Green Holder. Only 17,671 struck. Gertrude K. Lathrop, of Albany, was the designer and sculptor of the coin. She spent time at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Museum of the City of New York, and the New York Historical Society, researching the costumes, and obtaining access to authentic portraits of Livingston and Schuyler. As no authentic portrait of Governor Dongan is known, she had to rely on contemporaneous descriptions. Pop 121; 5 finer, 4 in 67+, 1 in 68.
