Obverse: Rifleman with shouldered weapon carrying a target, shield of Germany, powder pouch, crossed rifles and flags lying on a bed of pine and oak below. Legend: XII. DEUTSCHES BUNDESSCHIESSEN * NUERNBERG 1897 *

Reverse: Head of a cupid above enclosed city view with Coat of Arms in the center, below all the object associated with shooting festivals including gun, target, hat, beer stein, binoculars etc. Legend: WER GUT ZIELT DER GUT TRIFFT "He who takes aim well, will strike well!"

A Schützenfest (German "marksmen's festival") is a traditional festival or fair featuring a target shooting competition in the cultures of both Germany and Switzerland. Shooting competitions are a way of life in the Germanic regions of Europe. The initial Swiss Federal Shooting Festival (Eidgenössisches Schützenfest) was held in 1824. Federal contests along with cantonal, city, and club competitions have continued through to the present day.
