Imperatorial Period. Octavian (as Imperator), 43-27 BC. AR Denarius minted at Pergamum, 28 BC. Bare head right of Octavian; under neck, capricorn. Reverse: Crocodile right. RIC 545 [as R3]; Cr. 432; BMC 653. A few short, insignificant marks. Certainly one of the finest examples known of this historical issue. Nearly Extremely Fine; of sound metal and with an excellent pedigree. Commemorates the conquest of Egypt and victory over Antony and Cleopatra. Some of the very finest portraits of Octavian, artistically speaking, come from the mint at Pergamum. Estimated Value $6,000 - 7,000.
