1794 S-67 R3 Head of 1795 F15. Blundered Edge reading ONE HUNDRED A DOLLAR. Sharpness VF20 but there are a few light marks including a shallow planchet chip in the field left of the lower curls, a pair of hairline scratches at CENT, a planchet chip at the top of the O in ONE, and a pair of rim bruises at F-AM. Attractive glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with smooth surfaces. MDS, Breen state III, with obvious die clashmarks on the obverse and a fine die crack through the top of RTY. The blundered edge lettering resulted from the Castaing machine (a device used to impart the edge device to planchets prior to striking) was not reset all the way to the starting or null position before adding the lettering. There is a very large space between DOLLAR and ONE and no trace of the missing "A." A neat mint error. Estimated Value $800-UP. Categories: Liberty Cap Cents
