Obv Ruler standing left, sacrificing over altar and holding a filleted trident, second trident in left field, name beneath arm. Rev. The goddess Ardoxsho enthroned facing, tamgha at upper left (MK 611; Donum Burns 813 (“ Maiores domus ”)). Very fine. Rare. Other than from his coins, this issuer is unknown. Citing stylistic differences with traditional Kushan numismatic iconography, the use of the name “Samudra,” and the usage of irregular mints, Göbl argues that this issuer was a field commander, who struck coins on behalf of Samudragupta, in a region as yet incorporated in the Gupta realm; a region where Kushan gold was a staple currency. $500
