Constantine IV Pogonatus (668-685). Solidus, year H, c. 679-680 Carthage or Sardinia, (Av - 4,35g - 6h). DOC -, MIB 25 (Sardinia or Carthage), Sear 1189A. Very rare. According to Hahn, in MIB, the retrogade S has been identified as the mintmark for Sardinia, but a hoard of these coins has been found in Tunisia. The first supposition is a production from Carthage and the S referring to a gold shipment from Sardinia to aid in the war against the Arabs under the governor of Ifikya, Uqbah. The second supposition is that the Sardinian mint was a branch of the mint of Carthage and the finished coins were shipped back to Africa. About uncirculated.
