CHINA. 2 Mace Pattern in Gold, Year 39 (1950)-A. Chengtu Mint. NGC AU Details--Surface Hairlines.
Fr-unlisted; L&M-1038; K-1584; KM-unlisted; WS-unlisted. RARE. Struck as an attempt to revitalize monetary trade as the currently circulating fiat currency was not widely accepted. Struck at Chengtu, the last city controlled by the National Government in mainland China. From modified Austrian dies for the 1936 10 Cents (Y-349.1). By December of 1949 communist troops had laid siege to Chengtu, meaning this series of patterns must have been struck prior to the date on the coin. An interesting piece from the last vestige of the Republic of China on the mainland.
