For your consideration a rare revolutionary 2 pesos coin, struck for the Guerrero province of Mexico at the Campo Morado mint. Because of a shortage of silver during the Mexican revolution, the government of General Salgado (Emiliano Zapata) decided to add a grasp of gold (0.595 grams), which was equal to the missing silver (here around 5 grams) in order to keep the currency´s value in line. A beautiful typically weakly struck revolutionary issue and a great addition!

The Mexican Revolution (Spanish: Revolución mexicana) was a major armed struggle that started in 1910 with an uprising led by Francisco I. Madero against longtime autocrat Porfirio Díaz.
