1810. Overton-106a, Rarity 3. PCGS graded VF-30. Nice light toning. Later die state in which the rim appears flattened, something that happened in the minting process, apparently something lodged against or in the die and, whatever it was, it moved, as the rim flattening appears in several different positions. According to Donald Parsley, in his description of this unusual subvariety O-106a, "some specialists and researchers believe that this problem with flattened areas on the obverse and reverse rims or segment areas of the coin was caused by the edge lettering machinery." (PCGS # 6095) . Estimated Value $150 - 175. Categories: Capped Bust Half Dollars
