1904-S. PCGS graded MS-63. Old time toning. Nice even color. Lustrous frosty neutral gray surfaces with some deeper accents and a clean, bagmark-free cheek. Nearly breast details on the reverse eagle. A truly Choice specimen of a scarcer branch mint issue from our westernmost coining facility. This would turn out to be the second to the last time Morgan Dollars were issued. The mint brought back the device as an emergency measure in 1921 when the newly authorized Peace design failed to be completed on time (the dies were ready well into December of that year, months late). The 1904-S, although somewhat in the shadow of the scarcer 1903-S issue, is itself an elusive date in Mint condition. Many reached circulation; others, undoubtedly although no records were kept, got melted under the terms of the Pittman Act of 1918 (PCGS # 7294) . Estimated Value $3,200 - 3,300.
