Mint Place: Lima Mint Years: 1934 Reference: KM-218. Denomination: 1 Sol Condition: Certified and graded by PCGS as AU-58! Material: Silver (.500) Weight: ca. 25gm Diameter: 37mm

Obverse: Togate personification of the Republic seated beneath wreath ona column, holding stick topped by liberty cap, and leaning on shield. Incuse inscribed band ("LIBER-TAD") around column. Legend: FIRME Y FELIZ POR LA UNION Exergue: UN SOL Reverse: Wreath above shield with coat-of-arms of the Republic of Peru. All within wreath. Date below. Legend: REPUBLICA PERUANA LIMA 5 DECIMOS FINO 1934

 

Peru declared its independence in 1821 and the city of Cusco maintained its  importance within the administrative structure of the of the country.  Upon independence, the Department of Cusco was created and at the time maintained authority over territory extending to the Brazilian border. The city of Cusco was made capital of the department and  subsequently became the most important city in the south-eastern Andean  region.
