Belgium - Liège. Ducat, 1654. Fr-324; KM-74 (Liege); Delm-357. 3.46 grams. 22.16 mm. Maximilian Henry of Bavaria, 1650-1688. Crowned quartered shield within middle shield - beneath, crook and sword Reverse: Legend on decorated tablet, date below square. Rare. NGC graded MS-61. Liege was a powerful bishopric in the 17th century, with far greater holdings than the present city in Belgium. In fact, Liege controlled much of western Belgium and parts of France. The silver coins of the bishopric of Maximilian Henry are quite common, but the gold coins are almost never offered. The legend on the reverse tablet found on the reverse indicates the Dutch influence. Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,000. The Dr. Jacob Terner Collection. Categories: World Gold
