1898,
RUSSIA. 3 Kopek Pattern Struck in Copper, 1898. Berlin Mint. NGC AU-55 BN.
KM-Pn157; Bit-374; Brekke-8. VERY RARE. Date and legend on reverse in retrograde. In 1897, the Berlin mint struck trial pieces to present to the Russian government, as the St. Petersburg mint was having trouble fulfilling obligations to strike coins. In order not to copy the Russian currency exactly, the Berlin mint used the German eagle on the obverse and put the legend and date in retrograde on the reverse. Attractive chocolate patina.
