Following the retreat of Napoleon’s forces from Russia in 1812, the fortress of amosc was besieged by Russian forces in February of 1813. 17000 Russians aced 4000 Polish defenders. In October of 1813 after news of Napoleon’s efeat in the Battle of Leipzig, Polish morale was at a lowpoint and all oodstuffs had been consumed. Disease was rampant and the fortress urrendered on November 19th, almost half the defenders having died of sickness and starvation. В октябре 1813 года после известия о поражении Наполеона в битве при Лейпциге моральный дух поляков упал, продовольствие подошло к концу. Свирепствовали болезни и крепость сдалась 19 ноября, почти половина защитников пала от истощения и голода.
