Sicily, Siculo-Punic Coinage, c. 270-260 BC. AR Dekadrachm minted in Sicily. Head left of Tanit wearing grain wreath, single-drop earring and necklace. Reverse: Pegasos flying right. Dewing 984; Jenkins (SNR 57) plate 20, 451 (these dies). We note a slight discoloration on the reverse rim, possibly an old repair and we suggest you inspect this for yourself. About Extremely Fine with a couple light reverse marks, insignificant for an ancient coin of this size. This very rare, massive silver coin is seldom offered. Equivalent to five shekels, this coin type was struck in Sicily by the Carthaginians during the First Punic War with Rome. The Punic inscription on the reverse translates to "In the Land". Estimated Value $12,500 - 15,000. Deascensioned from the Museum of World Treasures, Wichita, Kansas. Categories:
