1909. PCGS graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. Well struck. Only 2,198 struck. Widespread criticism of the V.D.B. initials' prominence on the first Lincoln Cents of 1909 resulted in their removal midway through 1909, the design's first year of issue. In 1918, Brenner's initials were restored, but only as a small letter "B" under Lincoln's shoulder, where they remain today. After an initial 1,194 Proofs were made with the V.D.B., a further 2,198 were struck following their removal (PCGS # 3304) . Estimated Value $600 - 650. Categories: Lincoln Cents
