PHRYGIA. Dorylaion? Ae (3rd-2nd century). Obv: Helmeted head of Athena right. Rev: ΔΟΡΙ. Owl right; spearhead to right. Winterthur 4088 (as Dorylaion); Imhoof-Blumer, Kleinasiatische Münzen, 525, 1 (as Dorylaion); Aulock, Phrygien II, 63 (as Hierapolis). The attribution of the type to Dorylaion is based on Imhoof-Blumers reading of the ethnicon as ΔΟΡΥ. In his comment he states, that the last two letters are just partially preserved. The present specimen here is in a very good condition and the ethnicon can be read ΔΟΡI with certainty. So the attribution to Dorylain is absolutely questionable. Condition: Very fine. Weight: 1.3 g. Diameter: 11 mm.
