Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III, the Great, 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.04 g) minted posthumously by Seleukos (under the name of Alexander) at Antigoneia or Seleukeia, c. 306-301 BC. Head right of Herakles, wearing lion's skin headdress. Reverse: Zeus enthroned left, holding arm outstretched on which Nike has alighted and crowns Zeus; in left field, monogram. Newell (WSM) plate XIV, #3. Rare variant. Very Fine. The early issues struck by three of the main generals of Alexander: Antiochos, Seleukos and Ptolemy, are historically important and quite scarce.
