1888. PCGS graded MS-65. The 1888 gold three dollar has a business strike mintage of just 5,000 pieces, 291 proofs were also coined in this penultimate year for this denomination. It is genuinely scarce in all grades, even despite the fact that an unknown number of coins were saved by contemporary collectors at the time. This is one of the nicest examples we have seen, a coin characterized by billowy mint luster and soft yellow-golden color. Sharply defined, with no distracting abrasions or other blemishes in evidence. Pop 84; 39 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8010) . Estimated Value $10,000 - 11,000. Categories: $3 Gold
