EXTREMELY RARE Hexagonal 5 Ducat Klippe of Michael Apafi
Fr-432; KM-499; Huszar-665; Resch-275. Michael Apafi's rise to power was initially backed by the nobles of Transylvania as well as the Ottoman Empire. He was the longest ruler of Transylvania, as well as the last before it became part of the Holy Roman Empire. Although an initial supporter of the Ottoman Turks, Apafi's allegiances switched to Austria after the Turks defeat at Vienna in 1693. An EXTREMELY RARE type that was not present in the Nicholas Salgo collection. Plugged at 12 o'clock where a small hole for suspension has been filled. Well struck, lustrous and attractive.
