A COLLECTION FORMED BY PAUL STEVENS, MUGHAL Akbar, Gold Mohur, Fathpur, AH 986, hexafoil, one year type, 10.85g (KM 110.1). Good very fine. Fathpur Sikri, some 40km south west of Agra, was founded by Akbar around 1569. It took some years to complete and was used as his capital from 1571 till 1585. Fathpur mint was only in operation for a few years. Square Rupees are fairly common and are known struck between 985h and 989h. In gold, this rare round issue is known only for 986h, while a rare square issue of 989h is also listed. Copper Dams were also struck from 981h to 989h according to SAC. £1500-2000
