Peru. Republic. Pattern 8 Reales, 1826 M-JM (Lima). KM-Pn-2. 29.30 grams. Tripartite shield of arms flanked by wreath, and crowned above by smaller wreath. Reverse: Pallas Athene, as Liberty, stands frontal supporting tasseled cap on spear, while one hand rests on shield. Plain edge. Splendid strike. Light hairlining throughout. With artistic, warm to smoky toning, showing fine blues and violets in the recesses. A very handsome coin. Another extremely important proof pattern for the first 8 Reales of the new republic. One of 2 known specimens. NGC graded Proof 61. Estimated Value $15,000 - 17,000.
