1 Thaler    (sold for $6900.0)

Sigismund Bathori Thaler 1594, Dav-8804 for type, AU58 NGC, elegant dark gray toning, sharply struck, a couple of small edge marks on reverse rim, virtually no surface abrasions, in other words an excellent old cabinet piece. Sigismund, born in 1572, was prince of this ancient land in central Romania but also a prince of the Holy Roman Empire who was always eager to fight the "infidel" Turks, and later the Poles. He died at Prague in 1613 after losing numerous homeland internal political battles, in retreat from his beloved Transylvania. His memory lives on in this splendid portrait piece, which we hold and write about in Texas, you see on your home computer, and someone will win at auction in New York City.
