(sold for $3800.0)

1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Threepence Noe-34 Rarity-4 PCGS graded XF45. Glossy light silvery steel with darker grayish steel toning in the protected areas. The planchet is a bit uneven and displays traces of microscopic roughness in the protected areas. The only marks are some fine horizontal scratches in the upper branches of the pine tree, but these are only visible with the aid of a glass. The obverse (tree side) is misaligned to the top, as usual on the variety, while the reverse is nicely centered on the small planchet. The design details that made it on to the planchet are clear. A nice example of this historic early American coinage. Pop 5; 23 finer. Estimated Value $3,000-UP. Categories:
