Purchased from G. Müller, 5 February 1985 This example of the heavy standard gold Stater of Croesus is one of the earliest gold issues of the Kingdom of Lydia, which had hitherto issued coinage in electrum. This heavy standard was soon replaced with the light standard to provide more convenient exchange with silver staters. The heavy standard gold staters are thus very rare. US$ 10,000
